What is Nervos Network (CKB)

How Does it Work

Nervos CKB (common Knowledge Base) is a layer 1 blockchain. It is a decentralized and secure layer that provides the network with common knowledge custody. Common knowledge means states that are verified by global consensus. For example, crypto assets are common knowledge.

CKB and all layer 2 protocols in Nervos Network collaborate to run the crypto-economy. Layer 2 is the generation layer that handles most transactions and produces new states. On the other hand, Layer 1 (CKB) specifies and stores the state. Layer 2 participants eventually transmit newly created states to CKB when they think it is essential.

Their layered design isolates states and computation. This allows each layer to be more flexible and scalable.CKB is the Nervos Network’s lowest layer. It is also the biggest and most secure consensus. However, various applications might require different consensus scopes. If we mandate all apps to utilize CKB’s consensus, that would be impractical. Therefore, applications can select the best generating method depending on their own requirements.

CKB is also the native token for Nervos Network. A CKB holder can gain access to a portion of the network’s overall state storage. For example, you can create a 1,000-byte cell with 1,000 CKB tokens. Alternatively, you can create different cells on the Nervos blockchain that totals up to 1,000 bytes.
