How Ripple’s Latest Partnerships Are Shaping the Future of the XRP Ledger

David Schwartz, CTO of Ripple and one of the leading developers of the XRP Ledger (XRPL), is scheduled to speak at the Permissionless Conference, and his speech is expected to reveal new perspectives on blockchain technology. However, in recent discussions, Schwartz has rejected the debate on whether or not XRPL is permissioned or permissionless, claiming that both labels are misleading.

On the contrary, Schwartz insists that what goes beneath the surface in XRPL, especially how the protocol manages the problems related to the double-spend, is not as crucial as opponents have tried to portray.

A Misguided Focus in the Double-Spend Debate?

On this logic, Schwartz argues that the techniques employed in a blockchain to solve the double-spend problem of digital currency are not as important as the functionality of the overall blockchain technology.

As pointed out by Schwartz, although the double-spend solution is the essence of blockchain, it doesn’t necessarily describe the effectiveness of a blockchain platform like XRPL. He characterizes such an emphasis on this particular aspect as ‘nonsense,’ lamenting that while many exciting discussions are made around what applications or novelties XRPL offers to the blockchain sphere, the importance of this aspect obscures the essence.

Ripple’s Strategic Partnerships and Expanding Influence

As the debate on what exact category of digital asset XRPL constitutes goes on, Ripple has been busy building functionality of the ledger through integration. One of them is SBI Digital Community, a subsidiary of SBI Holdings, Japan’s largest online financial group. This strategic alliance strives to strengthen XRPL’s positioning within Web3, focusing on the latter’s NFT capabilities. By partnering with SBI Digital Community’s Bto3, Ripple presents XRPL as an adaptive layer for developing digital economies.

However, Ripple’s involvement in XRPL’s growth goes beyond partnerships. The company has focused on implementing various systems that promote innovation in the XRPL system. One of the most ambitious initiatives is the $250 million Creator Fund, which provides financial and, if necessary, organizational support to creators starting projects on the ledger. This fund has drawn many innovative developers and thinkers into its fold; thus, XRPL has secured its position firmly in the blockchain industry.

Conclusion

Since David Schwartz is gearing up to speak at the Permissionless conference, his categorization of the “permissioned” versus “permissionless” narrative reflects his optimism in the XRPL architecture. While Ripple continues to sign new contracts and receive financial investments, the XRP Ledger remains active, drawing attention to its usage in the blockchain. In the future, the strategy Ripple is pursuing and Schwartz’s recommendations will probably define the further development of XRPL and its application.
