Bitmine Immersion Technologies announced September 21 that it acquired 27,562 ether (ETH) over the previous week. As of September 20 at 9 p.m. Eastern Time, its holdings reached 5,983,940 ETH, which the company estimates at about 4.9% of ETH supply. CoinDesk valued the weekly addition at roughly $75 million using Monday’s market price, not a disclosed purchase cost.
Background and latest figures
Bitmine began an ETH treasury strategy in June 2025 and targets 5% of supply. Its release said 5,067,309 ETH, about 85% of its holdings, were staked as of September 20. Chairman Tom Lee expects institutions to increase crypto exposure later this year, but that remains the company’s outlook, not a confirmed flow of funds.
Impact and risks
Continued buying by a large corporate holder can absorb some available ETH and is relevant to supply analysis. Yet one buyer’s accumulation does not guarantee a higher ETH price. Staking involves operational, validator, custody or smart-contract risks depending on implementation, and projected rewards are not assured. The supply percentage uses company figures and an estimated denominator.
Trader’s decision lens
- Separate the confirmed weekly acquisition from management’s future expectations and check subsequent disclosures.
- Compare treasury demand with broader spot turnover, ETF flows and exchange liquidity.
- Assess whether the news is already priced in, set an invalidation level and limit exposure to volatility.
